Thurman tells Team Gervonta to Davis: “Show Me The Money”

Chris Williams: Keith “One Time” Thurman said that he has been waiting for the call from Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions CEO, to set up a fight between him (and their young star Gervonta “Tank”) Davis.

Ellerbe said recently that he would fight former WBA/WBC champion Thurman (29-1-1, 22KOs) or Tank Davis or Gervonta Davis in a “nanosecond” and that it was only one phone call away.

Thurman has not called Ellerbe, and the “nanosecond”, he was referring to, has passed. It has now been over a month.

Thurman is interested in fighting Tank Davis (25-0, 24KOs), but it does not appear that Ellerbe was just using ‘One Time” to gain publicity for Gervonta.

“One Time” Thurman said that Tank Davis would fight at 147 if he was serious about it. He would rather fight an ex-lightweight fighter to get used to the division than take on someone like him, who has been fighting at this weight since he turned pro.

KEITH WANTS TO SIGN A CONTRACT

Thurman said, “Anytime, any day, I’m out there working,” when Thurman was asked when he would be back in the ring. Thurman stated that anyone who wishes to sign a contract can.

Gervonta Davies Keith Thurman

Thurman said that when lightweights rise, they fight other lightweights who have already made it into the welterweight category.

“Lightweights don’t fight welterweights. Adrien Broner, a former super featherweight champion, fought Paulie Molignaggi [when AB moved to 147]. Thurman said that Broner was not a true welterweight after he had fought a Malignaggi at lightweight [135].

“When Broner started to get in the real welterweight mixture, he began taking L’s. Gervonta is not going to be taking L’s. He is just that type of fighter.

Thurman continued his lecture on Gervonta’s mistake if he moved up from 135 to147 to challenge him.

Mayweather Promotions won’t be signing a contract with Thurman anytime soon to allow him to fight their young golden goose.

Tank is the only Mayweather Promotions horse that has a chance to make a lot of money.

Although Mayweather is a multi-billionaire, he doesn’t use that money to sign top fighters in boxing like other promotional companies such as Top Rank, Golden Boy, Matchroom and Top Rank.

It is unclear why Mayweather hasn’t done that. He’s the #1 promoter of boxing and would be willing to spend it on signing the best.

THURMAN: I WAIT FOR THE PHONE CALL

It’s a common practice. Thurman said that if he has a great fighter, it will be a great pay per-view fight. “I believe the Mikey Garcia fight is a great pay per view fight. Is this the fight? Are they [Team Tank Davis]?

“Do they really want Keith Thurman to go in? You are familiar with me. This is why I am calling out Leonard Ellerbe. You don’t have to play me “nanosecond.” I’ve been here way longer than that.
